Preliminary
1- Character introduction preliminary

3- Song
Lost cause by Billie Eilish, i used the song's timing from 0:00 till 0:27, the song represents feelings of disappointment, frustration, and emotional exhaustion in a relationship. Eilish sings about she feels like she is wasting her time and energy on someone who doesn't appreciate her feelings.
The song captures a sense of emotional clarity acknowledging that sometimes people and situations are not meant to be fixed and its time to let go and move on.

4- Storyboard
I drew my storyboard on the app, "Ibis paint"
I got this story boarding temple from Canva, by searching "Storyboard".
5- Editing
I chose to edit this preliminary on capcut, for me its easier to use capcut, i used a total of 6 clips, i slowed some of the clips down to 0.9x from 1x as they seemed a bit short to me. i didn't use many effects except in the end i used "fade to black". This preliminary didn't take me much time to edit on laptop as i already did a rough edit on my iphone in capcut, as its much faster to edit on a phone, i edit on a phone first so i know how the preliminary looks like and if i should put time editing this on a laptop or should i reshoot.
i didn't use any effects on this and no color grading. its just to see how the shots would look when they are put together.
I only used one text in the preliminary. it was the default text, i didn't find any fonts so i decided to use the default one. Then i used this neon white color text effect.
This is my color grading, temp 7, tint 0, saturation 0, exposure -1, contrast 2, highlights 6, shadow 4, black 0, white 0, brilliance 0, sharpen 5, clarity 3, particles 0, fade 0, vignette 7, hue 3, saturation 0, brightness 0.
With my editing i was going for much color as i wanted a more dark look on the preliminary, i used contrast and shadows so all my dark colors in the video would appear darker, i didn't want the video to be much colorful hence i didn't use saturation. i wanted it to appear darker with dull colors like beige. since its the protagonist's personal space, her room is a representation of her. it doesn't have much color to it.

6- Location
I filmed my preliminary in this room, i chose this room because it has mainly dark colors like dark brown and light brown and a few light colors like yellow and beige. The room serves as a visual representation of the main character’s internal state. It’s a confined, personal space that reflects the protagonist's emotional isolation, stress, and sense of being overwhelmed. The room, filled with scattered books and papers, visually symbolizes her chaotic thoughts and the pressure she feels from the assignment and her own self-doubt. The dim lighting adds to the feeling of being trapped in a moment of uncertainty, showing that the protagonist is not just physically in a room but mentally in a space of frustration and exhaustion. The act of closing the laptop and taking a break in this environment emphasizes her need to step back and regain control, making the room a key setting to highlight her emotional journey and personal growth.
7- Props
I thought adding books to this preliminary was necessary because i am portraying as a student, hence i thought to represent the scattered books as a sign of the protagonist's scattered and chaotic thoughts.
I also used some papers to fill up the bed with the books. I threw these papers around on the bed to give a image of a real mess. The papers represent academic pressure and that the protagonist is surrounded with unfinished work.
The laptop was necessary to show the unfinished assignment, the laptop reminds the protagonist of her lack of progress.
8- costume
The dark blue hoodie and black pajamas give off a laid-back, casual appearance, but they also suggest a sense of tiredness and disinterest in appearance, reflecting the protagonist's emotional and mental exhaustion. She’s not worried about looking put together because she is overwhelmed with stress and anxiety, and her clothes reflect that.
Without makeup and with her hair tied up casually, the protagonist appears more raw and vulnerable. This choice shows that she’s not focusing on presenting herself in a polished way, as her mind is consumed by stress and self-doubt. This vulnerability allows the audience to connect more deeply with her character and her emotional journey. When people are mentally drained or overwhelmed, they often stop caring about how they look on the outside. The lack of makeup and the simple hair tie symbolize that the protagonist is so exhausted by her workload and her emotions that she doesn’t have the energy or mental clarity to focus on her appearance. It shows that she’s at a point where her focus is solely on surviving through the moment, rather than conforming to expectations. Many people, especially students, can relate to feeling too overwhelmed to put much effort into their appearance. the protagonist's unstyled look is realistic for someone who is struggling with pressure, assignments, and mental fatigue.
9- Mood board
I made this mood board with canva and i got these pictures from pinterest. My mood board reflects the physical and emotional state of the protagonist. the images of girls sitting in bed surrounded by books and laptop visually convey having a lot of unfinished work. my mood board includes room's filled with papers, books to represent the protagonists chaotic mind. The bed represents as both comfort and isolation. The protagonists is in a place where it should feel restful, but instead, the cluttered environment with books and papers scattered around, it creates a sense of mental chaos. the laptop is a constant reminder of her unfinished work which she cannot escape. The setting in the mood boarde captures a sense of being stuck in a moment of anxiety and frustration.
By Searching "Mood board" on Canva, i came across multiple temples. With Canva, i can easily customize any temple to however i want it to look.
10- Color palette
The colors in my palette are used to reflect the emotional tone of the preliminary. my colors are dark and muted tones like deep blue, black, dark brown, gray these colors symbolize feelings of sadness, isolation, or stress which align with the protagonist's feelings of being overwhelmed by her assignment and self doubt, these are the key elements in my character's journey.
11- Lighting inspiration
This is how i inspired my lighting in my preliminary to look. i took inspiration from this music video.
In the music video "The hills' by the weeknd", low key lighting was used from 1:30 to 1:35, low-key lighting is used to create a dark, moody atmosphere that reflects my preliminary's themes of loneliness and despair. The shadows on The Weeknd’s face and the minimal light sources throughout the scenes emphasise the emotional and psychological tension. the lighting is used to create an intense, dramatic atmosphere. The lighting is typically focused on a small area, while the rest of the scene is in shadow. This heightens the tension and mystery, It’s a great way to visually emphasize emotions like conflict, anger, or sadness. The low key lighting will allow me to showcase my character in a lonely and isolated space.
12- Behind the scenes
My media lab in charge sir was present during the shooting of the final project, and when we had some free time, we decided to use that opportunity to capture this footage. My classmate helped shoot the behind the scenes.

5- Editing
I edited this preliminary video on my phone using CapCut. During the editing process, I made the color grading was same across all the clips, giving the video a cohesive look and feel. This helped to maintain a smooth visual flow and keep the overall tone uniform throughout the footage.
The tools that I did not show in the picture means that I didn’t use them during the editing process. I focused on the tools that helped me achieve the desired look, and the others were not necessary for this particular edit
these are some of the transitions i used, in this clip i used a mix transition.
in this clip i used a fade to black transition.
in this clip i used a mix transition again.

6- Location
I chose this location to shoot because I really liked the lighting, it created the perfect atmosphere for the project. The room was also very spacious, which was essential for the setup. Since I was filming with a tripod, I needed a lot of room to position and adjust everything properly. The extra space allowed me to move around freely and capture the shots I envisioned.
7- Props
I thought that using props like a phone, a few books, and papers would work well for this preliminary because they were simple yet effective. The photographs on the phone added a modern touch to the video instead of a photo album , while the books and papers helped create a sense of authenticity, basically to give the vibes of a everyday desk. These props were also easily accessible and fit perfectly within the concept I had in mind for the shoot.
8- Costume and makeup
I chose to wear a simple black jacket and blue jeans, with no makeup, for this preliminary. The casual outfit helped keep the look natural and unassuming, allowing the attention to stay on the story I was trying to convey. The simplicity of the clothing also matched the overall tone of the video, making it feel more authentic and relatable.

12- Rehearsals
I first started with some rehearsals to get a feel for how I wanted the shot to look. This helped me understand the framing and positioning, ensuring the final result would match my vision.
13- Behind the scenes
For the behind-the-scenes footage, I shot everything myself. I shot the same scenes multiple times because I wanted to make sure I had plenty of footage to work with. By repeating the shots, I was able to experiment with different angles and take multiple attempts, giving me more options to choose from during the editing process. This approach helped me ensure that I captured the best possible footage.
1- Third preliminary
I decided to choose my third preliminary as a script.
